Judy Steele (aka: Ms Judy) started Wee Read almost 10 years ago at the neighborhood K-8 school, Gale Academy. Judy is an actress and a mom and involved with the Family Matters community. Along with the educational team at Family Matters, Judy launched the idea of an interactive literacy visit with the young children at Gale. Each week she would visit the pre-K and Kindergarten classes and spend about 30 minutes engaging with the children- reading books, talking about books, talking about the subjects that the books brought up. The children eagerly anticipated the visits from Ms. Judy each week and so did the teachers who go a few extra minutes to catch up on other classroom tasks while Ms. Judy visited with the class.
This spring Judy was supposed to be performing in a world premiere play in New Orleans. When the pandemic grounded everyone, Judy decided to make lemonade out of the situation and somehow continue Wee Read. She had the idea to film herself and make the links available to the teachers who then shared them with parents. Now we are making the stories available to the Family Matters community as a whole!
     Enjoy!
