Family Matters works with more than 400 children and their families and supports more than 325 volunteers. Our programs facilitate academic achievement, leadership, and healthy lifestyle options to address the disproportionate school dropout rate, obesity, chronic disease, and violence faced by our community. The Principles of Leadership, which undergird all of our work, facilitate the acquisition of developmental assets that operate as protective factors in the lives of youth while simultaneously teaching active citizenship skills. Our unique shared leadership approach, the Principles, and our efficacious programming contribute to participants perceiving themselves as active agents in their own lives, with their families and peers, and in society.
Family Matters believes the community must determine its own needs and can meet those needs through a partnership comprising neighborhood residents, staff, volunteers and donors. We are grateful for your partnership in our work with children and families in the North of Howard community.
